Premier bands dominate the British Pipe Band Championships

The 2017 British Pipe Band Championships, the first in piping’s annual calendar of ‘majors’, took place in Paisley this past weekend with Premier corps dominating Grade 1.

Ireland’s St Laurence O’Toole, under lead drummer Stephen Creighton, continued where they left off last season by claiming the prestigious Grade 1 British Drumming Championship title.

In the overall placings, five out of the six top bands performed on Premier with reigning world champions Field Marshal Montgomery clinching second place, whilst Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia, St Laurence O’Toole, Police Scotland Fife and Scottish Power claimed the next four spots respectively.

Across the Championship, over 140 bands from UK, Ireland, Canada and Denmark competed across various grades. The next major will be the UK Championships on the 10th June.
